Welcome to the new UTS Tigers website. UTS Tigers is a rugby league club run with the support of the University of Technology, Sydney Union (UTS Union) and rugby league foundation club, the mighty Balmain Tigers. The club encourages student participation but is open to all people, students or otherwise, who want to play rugby league. It fields 1st and 2nd grade teams in the NSW Tertiary League competition. Training is at Blackmore Oval on Wednesdays and Tempe Recreational Reserve on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:00. Games take place on Saturdays and the home ground is Balmain's historic Leichhardt Oval.

Training changes in Origin weeks

Training this week will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 pm at Tempe Recreation Reserve. The change is to allow players to have Wednesday night off to enjoy game one of State of Origin.

Training in subsequent Origin weeks will also be on Tuesdays and Thursday at Tempe.

Tigers get two wins in Newcastle

Four weeks after travelling to Newcastle and coming away with two wins, UTS repeated the feat in round 5.

The Tigers second grade had three players making their club debuts and another two making their season debuts. All debutants played strongly as UTS defeated Newcastle University second grade, 42-10.

The first grade clash between the two clubs was a much tighter contest. UTS dominated the first half but had to dig deep to hold off a strong second-half effort from Newcastle. A late try to Jonathan Pritchard secured the 24-10 victory.

 

Tigers fall to rival in both grades

On a windy Saturday at Blackmore Oval, UTS Tigers 1st Grade made its 2012 home debut against traditional rivals, Norwest Polecats. The Tigers faced their first big test of the season against the competition leaders and came up short, as Norwest continued its unbeaten start to the season with a 24-18 win. Daniel Hamad was outstanding in a losing team.
